Stretching your staff’s response to stress

Stress is big in the news and bad for business Most employers are aware that they have a legal duty -under the Health & Safety act 1974- to provide for the well-being of their employees. Many more also realise that a healthy and happy workforce is a productive workforce.  Loss of earnings (estimated at costing UK employers £1.24 billion annually) through absenteeism and de-motivation can cripple a company, it therefore makes good business sense both to look at ways to reduce the negative effects of stress upon one’s employees, and to empower them as individuals with coping skills, abilities and techniques to enable them to deal with the inherent/ attendant pressures of the job.

Many jobs and careers are seen as stressful; either due to the threat or occurrence of violence/danger,(emergency services, medical professions, armed forces etc.), boredom, monotony, lack of control,(machinists, factory workers, drivers, etc.) or heavy workloads, pressure of deadlines (financial services, desk jobs, etc.).It would appear then that in effect nearly all careers have their particular stressors, and that therefore a ‘one size fits all’ approach can never be appropriate, which is why stress management training is a client centred approach which is tailored to suit the needs of the individual or group in question.

With this in mind, and aiming to help local businesses of all sizes to access benefits such as better staff retention, heightened productivity levels and reduced absenteeism, Bournemouth based YogaCo. has launched it’s New-for-2005 “D-stress Program.”As well as working with Yoga therapy and the much in-vogue Power Yoga, trainer Keith Grant has, since qualifying as a Stress Management Trainer in 1997, seen the benefits to both individuals and groups and believes that businesses have the most to gain from the eclectic and holistic approach offered by the Stress Management approach.

Alongside the expected topics such as relaxation and breathing techniques, the D-stress training which YogaCo. offers as half/day seminars or weekly sessions, also includes a variety of coping skills, time management and problem solving methods, postural awareness derived from Yoga and Alexander technique, self-esteem, conflict resolution  and assertiveness training, as well as a number of NLP approaches. Even juggling can be taught as part of the tailor made program which will be delivered in your workspace.
